Meshlab creates weird bubbles when using poisson surface reconstruction. It’s possible to make a seemingly ‘solid’ object that can’t be printed.įor example where part of the form penetrates with the rest of it, without intersecting. What measurement unit does the MeshLab close holes function need Meshlab -> Filters -> Remeshing, Simplification and Reconstruction -> Close. The quickest and easiest way to fill a hole in Blender is to first select the boundary loop using Select > Select Boundary Loop or all non-manifold edges using Select > Select All by Trait > Non Manifold (Shift + Ctrl + Alt + M). MeshLab has successfully closed the two openings of the model however. MeshLab is an open source, portable, and extensible system for the processing and editing of unstructured 3D triangular meshes. When the filter is complete, click on Close to close the window. Keep the default values and select Apply. For a fully water tight scan, you should spend more time moving around the small detail areas and filling in any holes. Scroll down to the next cascaded window and select Close Holes. Once it is a solid the faces should be oriented so you see NO ‘back-face-material’. Go to Filters and select Remeshing, Simplification, and Reconstruction. Use a combination of Xray mode to see inside it, SectionPlanes to access the interior and drawing lines over existing holes’ edges to make missing faces infill, and erase unwanted flaps and internal-partitions etc and any unfaced edges. Personally I use MeshLabs (Filter>Remeshing>Close Holes. When you manage to make s non-solid group then it’s easy enough to stop it being fixable in code. As far as i know there is no simple way for complex holes (would be glad if there was). 1 Answer Sorted by: 2 It seems to me that your boundary is turned towards the exterior of the cylinder, so closing the hole building a patch of triangles would produce several undesired auto-collisions.
